About Us

Our group was founded in 1990 by Zena Maddison. It started as a small offshoot of an earlier South East London group (now disbanded) - a handful of members meeting in Zena's living room in Camberwell, and became the Camberwell ME Support Group. This grew and grew and became a registered charity in 2002. In 2013 we changed our name to South East London ME Support Group to reflect our broader membership.

We currently have about 160 members, mostly from the London Boroughs of Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham, but also from surrounding boroughs: Croydon, Greenwich, Bromley, Bexley, Wandsworth, Westminster, as well as a small number who have moved out of London but still like to receive our newsletter.

We currently offer:
  • quarterly newsletter (available as a printed copy or by email)
  • telephone support service
  • up-to-date information about sickness and disability benefits
  • monthly meetings
  • lunch club
  • range of therapeutic activities: qi gong, meditation, art, hydrotherapy
  • transport fund to help members access group events
  • selection of books, CDs, DVDs and talking books available to borrow on request

You are welcome to come along and try out a group event or activity before committing to joining up.
